Ontario has its own Mississippi River & it winds through this adorable town

There’s something enchanting about the image of a river winding through a small town, and in Carleton Place, that picturesque thought is a reality. Carleton Place is just 40 minutes outside Ottawa, a great place to take a day trip this fall featuring trails, amazing views and delicious restaurants.

This town has its own Mississippi River, not to be confused with the American Mississippi River! The rivers winds through town, and there’s even a trial you can follow.
According to Visit Carleton Place, “Soak in nature along this trail that follows the Mississippi from Princess Street to Anthony Curro Park This 1.9 km stone dust trail is wheelchair accessible and is a haven for both water and land birds and to the wildlife.”
The Mississippi Riverwalk Trail crosses bridges over marshy areas and showcases a variety of wildflowers and foliage.

The Ottawa Valley Recreational Trail also passed through town and is part of the former rail bed that spans part of the 296-kilometre corridor between Mattawa and Smiths Falls.
The roughly 30-kilometre trail runs from Smiths Falls to Renfrew and is safe for cycling walking and hiking.
