Former Raptor Kyle Lowry officially has a street named after him in Toronto

June 13, 2019. The Toronto Raptors would defeat the Golden State Warriors in Game 6 of the NBA Finals, and win the franchise’s first NBA Championship in its history. And in Toronto, June 13 will also be another day to remember. The city officially got a street named after former Raptor Kyle Lowry.

Deputy Mayor Denzil Minnan-Wong unveiled eight new street names for Don Mills Crossing earlier on Monday. According to Minnan-Wong, “These new street names honour individuals who have made outstanding contributions in Don Mills, Toronto, Canada and the world. It has been a pleasure to meet and celebrate each honoree.”

Kyle Lowry was among the honorees.

Last week, Toronto Mayor John Tory thanked Minnan-Wong for bringing forward the new street names for the Don Mills and Eglinton area. At the time, he mentioned Mike Palmateer Road and Kyle Lowry Road, and showed off the new signs on his social media.

This comes several weeks after Tory declared April 3 “Kyle Lowry Day” in Toronto. At the time, Lowry was returning to the city for the first time since left the Raptors.

“Kyle Lowry is one of the greatest Raptor players of all time and has proven over his career in Toronto that he will always be a champion of our great city. He has the stats to back up some career highs with the Raptors including all-time leader in assists, steals, three-pointers made, and playoff wins. But his impact off the court will always leave a lasting legacy on our city and its residents,” Tory said in a statement at the time.

“We will always remember Kyle for his role in the Toronto Raptors first NBA championship win. He showed up for Toronto and we will always show up for him. For more than nine years with the team, Kyle brought the city to its feet and made us believe in our beloved Toronto Raptors.”

In response to April 3rd’s Kyle Lowry day, the basketball player thanked the City of Toronto for “so much love and appreciation.”

“I would have never thought I’d have my OWN DAY wow!!! April 3rd is Kyle Lowry day!! Thank you to all the fans that showed why you are so great and why I feel in love with you,” he said.

Lowry has yet to respond to his newly named Toronto street.
