This floating boardwalk in Ontario is even more stunning in the winter

H.R. Frink Conservation Area is a beloved, all-season outdoor oasis, filled with hiking trails to the north and south, including a wetland boardwalk with an accessible pathway.

It’s about a two-hour drive east of Toronto, located in Plainfield, Ontario.

The conservation area has hiking trails on the north side and south side of Thrasher Road, totalling 10 km long.

According to Quinte Conservation, its north-side forested trails lead nature lovers along the Moira River, around a silver maple swamp, through a mature hardwood forest, and to Parks Creek.

As you explore the south side, you’ll find several more trails including the popular Wetland Ecology Boardwalk. These include

North Side

  • Cedar Creek
  • Drumlin
  • Hi-Lo
  • Pine
  • Pixie
  • Quill
  • Settlers
  • Timber

South Side

  • Boardwalks
  • Boundary
  • Horsetail
  • Pond

Winter adventures at H.R. Frink Conservation Area

Though in the summer and spring, you can peak right over the ledge and look at the life swimming below, in the winter the peace and tranquillity of the wetlands are unmatched.

There’s a gravelled trail that can be found from the parking lot to the boardwalk for ease of access throughout the year.

There are a few boardwalks to explore, one of which has a lookout over a creek.

You’ll find the other, Cedar Creek lookout, along the Parks Creek trail.

There’s public parking for this area, located on the south side of Thrasher Road.

Plan your winter adventure ASAP and we’ll meet you out on the trails.
