Here’s where you can see fireworks on Canada Day around Vancouver this year

Love ’em or tolerate ’em, fireworks are a Canada Day staple. This long weekend, the festivities are picking up right where 2019 left off – with free fireworks across Metro Vancouver. Thinking of checking some out for Canada Day 2022? Here’s what to know.

First off, we’ll answer what is likely a pressing question for firework lovers in the city: no, there will not be fireworks at Canada Place this year. However, the festivities are still expected to be a hit – especially considering the added funds going into daytime programming and food as opposed to nighttime activities.

Now that we’ve gotten that situated, let’s get into where you can see fireworks around Vancouver this year.

Surrey Canada Day

After a two-year-long hiatus, Surrey Canada Day is back and bigger than ever for this year’s festivities. The celebration will take place at the Bill Reid Millennium Amphitheatre from 10 am to 11:30 pm.

Where: 17728 64 Ave, Surrey, Bill Reid Millennium Amphitheatre
When: Friday, July 1st

Victoria Canada Day

Tasty street market food from around the world? Check. Live music and entertainment all day long? Check. Firework show? Double-check. The city of Victoria has unveiled an incredible lineup for this year’s celebration, including several dance displays, an Indigenous traditional canoe welcoming ceremony, and an evening firework display scheduled for 10:20 pm over the Inner Harbour.

Where: 812 Wharf Street, Victoria
When: Friday, July 1st

Coquitlam Canada Day

The City of Coquitlam has adapted their Canada Day event to provide a range of diverse community performances and multi-cultural programming that are sensitive to the mixed perspectives of the holiday. This year’s event will include a variety of inclusive, family-friendly fun – including a face painting station, performances on The Meadow Stage, and fireworks at 10 pm at the Town Centre Park. Guests will also have the opportunity to learn more about Canadian pre-colonial Indigenous history.

Where: 1299 Pinetree Street, Town Centre Park, Coquitlam
When: Friday, July 1st

So, there are your Canada Day 2022 firework options, Vancouver. We think they’re worth the trek, but if you’d rather stay closer to the city, there are plenty of festivities to take part in.

Rosie’s BBQ & Smokehouse will be parking their 19′ smoker and tailgating outside the Nat for the long weekend series against Spokane – a great time for baseball & Texas BBQ lovers! Plus, their friend Jillian Justine Brooks of Métis Bannock Queen will be making her generations-old bannock recipe.

For music and art lovers, there are a ton of performances slated for July 1st during TD’s International Jazz Festival, a showing of Harlem Duet at Bard on the Beach, and not to mention a special Canada Day 2022 celebration at Shipyards Live. So, you’ve got plenty of options that are still within arm’s reach if you’re living in the city!

Well, that’s all for now, folks. Let us know if you’re able to catch any fireworks this year (at the events above or otherwise). Have a happy and safe long weekend!
