These are the biggest movies & TV shows filming in Alberta this summer

Oscar award-winning talent, lights, cameras, and a ton of action. Wild Rose Country is no stranger to major productions and indie projects alike, but what’s coming down the pipeline?

According to the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists (ACTRA) and the Directors Guild Of Canada (DGC), those in Calgary and Edmonton should keep their eyes open!

Here are the TV shows and movies filming in Alberta this summer.

 The Abandons 

Produced by Karl Sutter (Sons Of Anarchy) and starring Gillian Anderson (The Crown) as well as Lena Headey (Game of Thrones)The Abadons is a Western action drama that will follow a group of atypical families who are driven out of their homes by a corrupt force. The cast and crew will be in town until October 18th, 2024.

Where: Calgary and surrounding areas

Heartland

From High River to the Cowboy Trail, this long-running CBC original has covered a ton of ground in and around the province and shows no signs of slowing down! Stars Amber Marshall (Resident Evil) and Graham Wardle (Supernatural), Heartland is currently filming their 18th season in and around Millarville.

Where: Millarville, Alberta and surrounding areas

My Life With the Walter Boys 

Based on the beloved young adult novel by Ali Novak, My Life With The Walter Boys is currently filming its second season for Netflix. The show follows Jackie (played by Nikki Rodriguez) a teen struck by tragedy and forced to start over on a Colorado ranch occupied by 12 boys.

Also part of the cast? Sarah Rafferty (Suits) and Marc Blucas (Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Swagger), Noah LaLonde (Asbury Park), Ashby Gentry (Are You Afraid of the Dark?), Connor Stanhope (Smallville), Johnny Link (Dear Edward) and Corey Fogelmanis (Ma).

Die, My Love 

Co-written and directed by Lynne Ramsay, best known for We Need To Talk About Kevin, Die, My Love will star Jennifer Lawrence and is described as following a mother struggling to “maintain her sanity as she battles with psychosis.”

Pre-production has already begun with filming to take place between August, 12th and October 8th, 2024.
