This riverside town in Ontario is like taking a trip to Scotland

You don’t need your passport to travel across the pond! The town of Fergus is a slice of Scotland here in Ontario, and it’s a stone’s throw away from Toronto.

Located on the banks of the Grand River, Fergus dates way back to the 1800s — the town was officially established in 1833.

The town has strong Scottish roots and the rich heritage has been preserved to this day.

The historic downtown is filled with natural limestone buildings, parks and public gardens, unique shops, and excellent restaurants, giving locals and visitors a little taste of Scotland.

In fact, the town hosts an annual Scottish Festival and Highland Games every summer with renowned Celtic talent from around the world.

You can browse specialty stores like the Fergus Scottish Corner Shop, and the enchanting Bookery that feels like a trip back in time.

There are also fun pit stops like the “I Love Chocolate!” shop, Iron Bucket Antiques, and the adorable One and Only Marketplace featuring Canadian artisan items.

With the scenic St. Andrew’s Mill, the Grand River nearby, and the extensive surrounding trail network, outdoor enthusiasts will have plenty to see and do.

These charming historic towns will transform for the haunted season, with spooky creatures around every corner.

You can’t miss the Monster Mash party and Halloween Haunt Street Walk on October 28th, a haunted walk in downtown Fergus with treats for kids, dancing witches, and live music.

Ghouls and ghosts from all over are invited to the festivities — you can see the full Monster Month calendar here.

So if you’re ready to be whisked away to the rolling hills of Scotland (with a spooky twist) you know where to go!
