Roller coaster enthusiasts, take note! Vancouver’s own Playland will become the home of the fastest launch coaster in Canada. Talk about bragging rights!

During a press conference at the PNE on Friday, November 4th, it was revealed that Playland purchased the launch coaster for a whopping $9M. Its maker? Zamperla of Italy – one of the largest ride/attraction manufacturers in the world, according to the release.

“Playland and Zamperla have a long partnership and their team started discussions with us over a year ago about their long-term planning and helping them grow the park’s offerings,” said Zamperla CEO Antonio Zamperla.

After the mass success of their co-partnered ‘Skybender’ roller coaster ride this summer, to say we’re excited to see the new 380-metre-long “LSM Launch Coaster” unfold would be an understatement.

According to Zamperla, the new coaster will complement the classic ‘Coaster’ while taking the park’s lineup to the next level.

“The new linear synchronous motor (LSM) launch coaster will occupy the previous location of the retired Corkscrew Coaster, and construction will begin in 2023 with opening targeted for 2024,” states the release.

While it’ll be a while before you can hop on board, we can all get a sneak peek of the big reveal in the Zamperla teaser trailer below:

Well, that’s all we’ve got for now, Vancouver. Hold onto your hats and get ready for what is sure to be an exciting launch, no pun intended.
