Ontario has a breathtaking cliffside gorge with calm blue waters you can swim in

It’s getting warmer out there, and that only means one thing — the season of fun in the sun is here! At least to us, it is. And if you’re eager to get outside and enjoy nature, you have to make at least one trip to the popular Elora Gorge Conservation Area this year.

If you’ve never been, Elora Gorge is one of the most spectacular destinations for a day trip from Toronto.

It’s located less than 90 minutes from downtown Toronto in the adorable town of Elora.

The rushing river is surrounded by soaring 22-metre cliffs, with scenic walking trails and overlooks to soak up the breathtaking views. It recently opened for the season and will remain open until October 15.

While you walk the trails, you can gaze down at the stunning views of the water far below where kayakers and tubers make their way through the rapids.

It’s worth noting that the gorge is deep and the walls are steep, so be sure to hike only on marked trails and stay away from the edge.

There are plenty of activities to enjoy at Elora Gorge, including canoeing, fishing, cycling, picnicking, and even camping.

Day-use admission begins at $31.0 for children aged four to 13, seniors 65+ from $5.75, and adults 14 to 64 for $7.08.

And once the weather gets a little hotter, you can pay a visit to the Elora Quarry Conservation Area, which is a gorgeous limestone quarry with calm blue waters that are perfect for swimming.

The Quarry

The quarry is a separate property from the gorge and doesn’t open until June 10th. You will need a separate admission ticket and vehicle permit to visit.

Though it may seem tempting for you thrill seekers, it’s important to note that no jumping, diving, or climbing is permitted from the cliffs.

But if you’re in the mood for a little different kind of adventure, you can go tubing at Elora Gorge in the Grand River Valley starting in mid-June.
