Feeling adventurous? Parkbus is now offering an exciting route that will get you out, about and exploring the rolling hills and gorgeous lakes of a UNESCO-designated Biosphere Reserve.

Located 30 minutes east of Edmonton, Elk Island National Park is an enchanting destination where there is a ton of wildlife, picture-perfect scenery, and fresh air.

From the hiking trails to the beach, guests are in for a day of fun and sun, all for less than $10.

Starting June 29th, 2024, those who don’t can’t or just don’t want to drive to the area, can do so for FREE – only having to pay for entry to the park.

How? It’s simple!

“Guests must reserve a seat by registering online at Parkbus.ca. A $15 deposit (per person) is required and will be refunded to participants who arrive on time for their scheduled departure,’ Parkbus explains on their website.

“Regular park entry fees apply ($8.50 per adult, $7.25 per senior), and will be deducted automatically from the deposit – unless you have Parks Canada Discovery Pass. Parks Canada Discovery Pass holders must bring their pass on the bus.”

What to expect

The shuttle will begin its journey from MEC Edmonton Downtown and the Royal Alberta Museum, and it will take about an hour to get there – so get comfortable.

Once there, guests will get a behind-the-scenes tour of the Visitor Information Centre, where they’ll learn the park’s history and can browse local indigenous crafts and Parks Canada merchandise.

Once they’ve shopped and taken in valuable information, they’ll be transported to Astonin Lake Recreational area where they can have a picnic, play on the playground, join an interpretive program or watch birds from the Living Waters Boardwalk.

Sounds fun, right?

If you’re interested, head to their website now.

There’s no place quite like it, and you won’t want to miss your chance to see it all for less than a specialty coffee.

Happy wandering and enjoy.
