This hike through forests has one of the best lookouts in Ontario

Ready to take in one of the best views around? The Edmund Fitzgerald trail is one hour north of Sault Ste. Marie, located within the beautiful Pancake Bay Provincial Park. The lookout hike is considered one of the best in Ontario so add it to your bucket list!

According to Tourism Sault Ste. Marie, the “beautiful woodland walk through towering maple trees leads you to spectacular views of Lake Superior.”

The hike will take you around two to three hours in total and is described as an easy hike spanning seven kilometres.

The route to the lookout is a mix of flat hiking through forests, with some occasional up hill sections.

The most strenuous part of the hike is actually on the final leg to the lookout! The wooden stairs leading up to the landing may leave you a little winded but the views are worth it.

There are two platforms you can gaze from, both boasting views of the park’s forests and the blue waters of Lake Superior.

While the green foliage and clear waters are a stunning sight in the summer, in the fall the colours of the forest from the lookout are something you’ll need to see to believe!

Don’t worry about getting lost, the trail is marked and maintained by park staff to ensure it is clean and well-kept.

Because the parking lot is located within Pancake Bay Provincial Park, you will need to pay a day-use fee to get to the trail which starts at $12.25.
