The month of March being right around the corner can only mean one thing- the days of winter are numbered. Rather than sitting at home and waiting for spring to roll around, we’re sharing some amazing things you can only do during the winter in Edmonton. Consider it a bucket list of sorts over these next few weeks.
Here are some amazing things to do before winter is over in Edmonton.
GO ON A DATE UNDER THE STARS
This new weekend date series looks absolutely spectacular. Listen to live music, enjoy a little food, and stroll around the gorgeous U of A Botanic Gardens. The best part about it, for us, is the giant ice slide you can check out. The series might last, but the slide is only here while it’s cold.

SWEET TREATS & LATTE FESTIVAL
This food and drink festival in Old Strathcona is a great way to make the most of the last few days in Edmonton. We’re the first to admit that we’ve used lattes, hot chocolate and baked goods to eat (and drink) our emotions more than a few times this winter.

HIT THE SLOPES
Sunridge, Snow Valley and Rabbit Hill have all had pretty great seasons, all things considered. If you still haven’t headed out for a few laps, know that you’re timing is running out. Besides, these are much more convenient than packing up at 5AM to head to the Rockies.

DO SOME STARGAZING
We’ll never overlook that we’ve got a national park just sitting on our doorstep. And, you can make the most of it by heading over there for an afternoon of snowshoeing, followed by a little stargazing after the sound goes down. Just make sure you’re prepared for the weather!

GET TUBULAR
The Edmonton Ski Club is ready to help you embrace your inner child. And with pretty scant snowfall this year, we think this is the best bet for those who would otherwise be exploring all of the sledding hills around the city. After all, tubing can be an absolute riot.
When: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5PM-9PM

GO CROSS COUNTRY SKIING
If you’re craving more exploration than exhilaration, then cross-country skiing is a fantastic option. Stick inside city limits for free and easy loops, or head to a nearby nordic area, like the Strathcona Wilderness Centre. Take a quick afternoon loop, or spend a day on a trek.

GO ICE CLIMBING
In addition to tubing, the Edmonton Ski Club has introduced a new option for this winter- an ice wall. That’s right, you can enjoy one of the most extreme sports on earth, without actually having to climb a waterfall in the winter. That’s too extreme for us.

SKATE AROUND EDMONTON
There’s nothing more quintessential in the winter than a little bit of skating. Skating plazas and trails await you all around the city. But, there’s a reason why the Victoria IceWay is the most popular- the massive track comes alive with lights at night!
