A vibrant celebration of African culture will hit Edmonton this weekend

Sunny season is all about vibrant events and contagious energy, and at the Africanival in Edmonton, you’re in for a magical expression of culture, music, and incredible food.

Meant as a way “to bring to awareness” to Albertans and Canadians in general, this colourful experience celebrates diverse cultures and the beautiful weather as it heats up Wild Rose Country.

What to expect

Ready to kick spring 2025 off on the right foot?

This outdoor extravaganza will take place on June 6 at 9 a.m. and will run until June 8 at 9 p.m., but you’ll want to plan ahead.

During Africanival, guests will be able to enjoy live music, dancing, art, and local cuisine, authentic to vendors and countries across the African continent, just as the name would suggest.

This weekend, check it out as it “brings together performers, artisans, and the community to honour Afro-Caribbean traditions, inspire cultural appreciation, and promote unity,” they explain.

To check it out, head to Winston Churchill Square with a friend, family member, or special someone and wear comfortable shoes.

Not only will you be wandering the booths and taking part in some fun activities, but you’ll also want to move your hips, arms, and legs.

Last year, the group saw about 20,000 people from all over the province, but its popularity is only going to grow,

In 2025, there will be a fashion Show, gospel hour, and kids’ corner, as well as everything mentioned above, so don’t miss it!

It’s going to be a magical time.
