Picture this: you’re strolling through a lush forest with all the colours of fall painted around you as you listen to the sounds of water flowing. Sounds pretty amazing, right? Duchesnay Falls is a popular destination in Ontario for good reason. The natural attraction is a “four-season wonder,” but if you’re asking me, I would say the views of this trail and waterfall come alive in the autumn.
Duschesnay Falls is part of a picturesque trail system just minutes from downtown North Bay.
The Education Centre Trails “take hikers from the main campus of Nipissing University and Canadore College through scenic wooded areas, over creeks on rustic wooden bridges, and along Duchesnay Creek as it cascades down North Bay’s escarpment.”
If you’re driving from Toronto, it will take you just under three hours. There are access points from the trails in the designated parking lot on Highway 17 or behind Nipissing University.
Be sure to dress with the appropriate footwear and clothing if you’re embarking on the hike to Duchesnay Falls.
While the hike isn’t considered difficult, there are some slippery rocks and uneven ground along the way.
The best part of the trail system is that it offers multiple viewpoints of the falls, allowing you to check them out from every angle. Another must-stop along the Lookout Trail is where hikers will find a small lookout tower, offering a beautiful view of Lake Nipissing and the Manitou Islands.
The entire collection of trails is free to check out, so it would be silly not to add this to your autumn bucket list.
Duschesnay Falls is waiting for you!
Where: Hwy 17, North Bay, Ont.
