You know what’s better than a delicious meal combined with a crisp wine enhancing the flavours of that meal? That same drool-worthy meal and that same luxe wine amidst the scenic views of the rugged Rockies. And you can now enjoy this elevated experience (in both senses of the term) for free, thanks to the Argentine winery, Doña Paula‘s A Taste Above contest.
Interestingly, the contest is so named not just because of the mountain-top dining experience and the Banff stay but for another reason. It’s because the winery is running the contest this Spring to celebrate one of its award-winning and popular wines, Doña Paula Estate Malbec.
The wine proudly touts the tagline, “It’s a matter of altitude.” You see the Doña Paula Estate Malbec is crafted with grapes harvested in Argentina at a high altitude (1,350 metres above sea level, to be precise). The same altitude as Banff, interestingly enough! And this high altitude is what gives high-quality grapes that lend to the wine’s balanced and fresh flavour. Hence the contest name – A Taste Above.
If you haven’t given this blast of freshness a try yet, Doña Paula Estate Malbec is an intense violet wine with soft tannins and a persistent finish. The wine boasts aromas of black fruits, violets and spices and notes of minerals and graphites.
Circling back to their A Taste Above contest, the winery is giving away a package worth $5,000. This includes a beautiful stay in Banff and an incredible mountain-top dining experience.

While you don’t make a purchase or drink the wine to enter the contest, you do need to be of legal drinking age. It is, after all, a celebration of their delicious, full-bodied wine. The contest is currently open to all Albertans and will run till Friday, June 30th, 2023.
