This Ontario city is known for a 100-year-old ‘prank’ that can only be seen by boat

This Ontario adventure is well worth the 20-hour road trip! Head to Northern Ontario and discover Kenora, a charming city known for its scenic harbour, quaint downtown, and unique roadside attractions. With float planes dotting the waterfront and plenty to explore, here’s what you need to know before you go.

The city of Kenora is one of those places that welcomes all with open arms. It offers that local charm we tend to adore in smaller nooks across Ontario. Unfortunately, it’s not as close to Toronto as we had hoped. As we said, it is about a 20-hour drive from the city. It’s practically at the border of Manitoba.

So it’s not day trip-worthy, but it is worth the journey. It is one of those getaway destinations you have to experience at least once.

Next Stop: Kenora, Ont.

You’ll find Kenora lakeside to Lake of the Woods, home to a series of picturesque islands and long white sand beaches. This area is said to have some of the most breathtaking scenery in North America.

But for Kenora itself, you’ll find a mix of freshwater adventure, outdoor activities, and, of course, fun, according to the City’s site. When the sun is out and shining, this place is like no other.

It’s also home to some rather unique side attractions like Husky the Muskie, Devil’s Gap Rock, and Loonie Bear, just to name a few.

Attractions

According to the City, Husky the Muskie is a local landmark of a large outdoor sculpture of a muskie fish in McLeod Park. While you’re there, you may as well snap a picture of the James Mcmillan Tugboat that is located directly across from Husky the Muskie.

As for the Devil’s Gap Rock, it’s a prank that dates back to the 1890s. It has a face painted onto a rock that has been repainted by local residents. According to Ontario’s Sunset Country Travel Association, it is located “in a narrow water channel on Lake of the Woods just a few kilometres from Kenora’s busy waterfront.”

And the good ol’ Loonie Bear is a large bear statue located along the Harbourfront in Kenora that’s more cute than cuddly.

Besides the local restaurants, small shops, outdoor adventures, trails, parks, and memorable attractions, Kenora has a lot to offer. But if you’re asking us, the roadside attractions are reason enough to visit the city.
