According to DesignTO, the mission of the month-long festival is to “curate exhibitions, presentations and educational programming to increase the public’s knowledge and appreciation of design and its role in creating a sustainable, just and joyful world.”

The festival kicks off on January 19th running until January 28th, and trust us there is no shortage of art and exhibitions to check out with DesignTO’s festival schedule jam packed!

Some exhibits are more than just for viewing such as the BoomBoom exhibit at Yonge and St Clair. This interactive installation is comprised of three heart-shaped hanging structures crafted from vibrant recycled mesh and adorned with programmed lighting. Visitors are encouraged to interact with the installation, experiencing “the unique beats they produce.”

It doesn’t matter where you are in the city, you can find art from DesignTO Festival all over. Here are just a few you can check out:

If heading out into the winter weather isn’t for you, you can still experience DesignTO Festival online. Select exhibits are completely virtual, such as Art Meets Design, a unique virtual interior design challenge. Art Meets Design invites designers to create spaces that resonate with Canada’s rich tapestry, emphasizing the fusion of design, artistry, culture, and heart.

Designs will even be judged based on creativity, functionality, and the harmony between art and design with a virtual showcase and public exhibition virtually displaying the winning pieces.

Categories for the art and installations range from Interior Design, Furniture Design, Lighting, Experience Design, Fashion, Graphic Design, Landscape Design and more.

While most events and exhibitions are free, but some require a RSVP or purchased tickets.

So whether you’re ready to take on city streets, or stay at home, start planning which pieces you want to check out this month!
