Though it’s a tad bit early for beach season, we can’t help but get in the mood for a beach day when we’re hit with summer-like weather in May. But if that happens to be the case, why NOT go to the beach and enjoy the day? And we’re here to tell you about one of Ontario’s most stunning beaches, known for its clear waters and vast sandy shore. Here’s what to know about Crystal Beach.

Known as Bay Beach to many but Crystal Beach to most, is located right in the town of Fort Erie.

According to Destination Ontario, Crystal Beach was actualy the former site of an iconic amusement park that drew many visitors every summer.

“Its roller coasters, dance halls and concert venues put this small town on the map. Despite closing down in 1989, some of these old historic buildings are still standing and can be seen around town,” shares the page.

“At the time, the beach contained rental units, a snack bar and various fun attractions, drawing crowds from across Canada and the U.S. A showboat and passenger steamer, the S.S. Canadiana, travelled between Buffalo in New York and Crystal Beach to ferry visitors to this popular beach.”

And we’re not shocked by its popularity as Crystal Beach is well known for its pristine sand and crystalline water around the globe. Back in 2018, it was named one of North America’s Top 50 Beaches, ranked by 1,200 travel experts around the world.

It landed in 39th place among notable shorelines of California, Hawaii, and British Columbia.

The beach has since seen extensive upgrades with new amenities and accessibility features.

There’s a viewing deck overlooking the beach, a playground, state-of-the-art washroom facilities, accessible ramp down to the beach, picnic areas, and a community square for events and performances, according to Tourism Niagara.

Though you’d love to spend the day on the sandy shore, make sure to visit the waterside town. It’s home to tons of shopping, dining, and nightlife options.

To access the beach, you must purchase a Day Pass at the Bay Beach main entrance from 9 AM to 6 PM.

They’re available Monday through Thursday for $5 and $10 per person on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays, according to the Town of Fort Erie.
