We just experienced a serious range of emotions watching a video of a roadside birth on an Ontario highway. First skepticism, then anxiety, leading up to all-out fear, before being hit with a wave of relief and happiness. Like any masterpiece, it’s one of those things where you’re grateful you watched it, but you don’t know if you ever want to see it again.

Ok, a little backstory. Erika and Troy Campbell, out of Pickering, were preparing for the birth of their third child last Monday, on May 10th. The Campbells, already active on YouTube, Instagram and TikTok, had been documenting the journey, and a video captured earlier that day shows Erika and Troy discussing the intervals of her contractions, prior to hopping in the car.

Troy continued to document the experience once in the car, and that’s when things go from joking to a little more serious. Erika’s contractions continued to increase in frequency and intensity, which we’ll admit is where we got really invested in what was going down. As a heads up, there is no graphic content in the video, but you will see a newborn baby.

This leads to a call with Erika’s midwife (who was also phoned earlier in the day), and the direction to pull over to the side of the road, call 911, and have Troy be talked through a very, very quick delivery process. Seriously, the sheer human spirit on display here was like seeing a mom lift a car off her kid, or something. It is nuts.

According to a comment on YouTube, the two were originally scared to post the video, but have seen overwhelming support since doing so. We’re going to echo those comments- all we see are two loving, communicative parents going through a curveball that is the stuff of lore, and managing to document it at the same time.

So folks, if you’re ready to see the miracle of birth on the side of a highway in Ontario, all you have to do is watch the video above.
