Canadians can now live in one of the world’s most beautiful countries for 6 months

If all this cold weather is giving you a serious case of wanderlust, we’ve got some exciting news. The beautiful country of Costa Rica now allows Canadian passport holders to live there for up to six months!

This new extension permits Canadians to stay in Costa Rica for 180 days. That’s double the length of time that Canadians were allowed to stay in the country previously.

According to the Embassy of Costa Rica in Canada, visitors do not need to obtain a visa. However, there are some entry requirements you’ll need to meet.

In addition to a valid passport, you’ll need “proof of economic solvency of at least US$100 per month of legal permanence in the country,” the Embassy says.

You’ll also have to show your return flight out of Costa Rica upon entry, and you cannot have any impediments to visiting the country.

Costa Rica’s immigration laws define an impediment as a criminal conviction within the last 10 years, injunctions, or pending criminal processes for some crimes — all the details are listed here.

So if you’ve got a clean record, roundtrip flights, spending money, and a current passport, Costa Rica welcomes you.

If you’ve never been, there are infinite reasons to pay this incredible Central American country a visit.

The rainforested region sits on both the Caribbean and Pacific coastline.

The protected jungle landscapes are teeming with exotic wildlife, from sloths to parrots to monkeys of all kinds — in fact, it’s one of the most biodiverse places on the planet.

It’s known for its volcanoes, waterfalls, and beaches, not to mention its high standard of living and stability.

The country is also home to one of the world’s Blue Zones, where the average life expectancy is much higher.

Given the beautiful surroundings and the “pura vida” lifestyle, it’s no wonder that people live much longer here.

And for six months, you could get a true taste of Costa Rican living — and skip winter in Canada while you’re at it!
