Three Canadian cities were named the best in the world in 2025

In addition to spotlighting exceptional stays and travel experiences, the Condé Nast Traveler 2025 Readers’ Choice Awards recognize the best cities across the globe. Voted by readers, this year’s list shouts out destinations from Italy to Botswana to major North American cities.

The list is divided into the best small and large cities, and Canada appears in both.

“Your favourite large international cities include destinations beloved for their food and wine, their architecture and art,” explains CN Traveler. “Some are classic travel spots that many of you have visited multiple times, while others are slightly less-touristed—but all equally deserve your attention.”

Three Canadian cities among the best in the world

Victoria

Recognized for its historical sites, local arts scene, and excellent dining options, Victoria, B.C., took the #1 spot as the best small city in the world this year. Among destinations like Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; Florence, Italy; and Lucerne, Switzerland, this is a huge feat!

“Arrive via one of the world’s most scenic ferry rides across Swartz Bay and check in to the bucket list-worthy Fairmont Empress,” says the Readers’ Choice Awards. With a reputation as the most British town in Canada, most restaurants and hotels offer a proper high tea.”

Vancouver

Renowned for its plentiful natural beauty, culturally diverse restaurants, and year-round outdoor excursions like the Grouse Mountain gondola ride, Vancouver ranked #7 out of #10 in the big cities category.

“There’s something wonderful about visiting a city where you can be in the heart of a metropolis, eating a five-star meal one day and enjoying the skyline from the seat of a kayak the next.”

Montreal

Quebec’s largest city (coming in #9 out of #10) has a rich history, with the cobblestone streets of Old Montreal beckoning visitors for a taste of Europe. But its eclectic food scene is the star of the show, according to CN Traveler readers. Its “rebellious, forward-thinking” streak is best experienced at one of the city’s contemporary art museums, wine bars, and modern hotels.
