There’s nothing like the charm of a small town to draw you in during the holidays and make you feel cozy and warm, and that’s exactly how you’ll feel roaming Chilliwack’s historic downtown, District 1881.
A historic and vibrant hub akin to the quaint, narrow streets of Europe, the district offers visitors a picturesque place to wander, window shop, and savour the holiday season.
Now in its fourth season, the holiday festivities in District 1881 have only gotten bigger and better upon completion of downtown construction.
Last week, the downtown’s 40-foot Christmas tree was lit for the season, and visitors now have a variety of festive activities to look forward to.
On Saturday, December 21st, there will be live music by various artists, bands, and dance groups, including Coast Drumming Group,
The charming lanes of the district will transform with 12 holiday displays and festive lights galore, complete with a “Candy Cane Lane” on Sasquatch Alley that tells the enchanting story of “The Christmas Caper.”
According to the district, Sasquatch Alley is named after the Sasquatch (Sásq’ets), or people who once left to go into the forest and never returned.
It’s believed that these individuals learned how to become a “shxwlá:m” by receiving special spirit power from the forest, and that’s how they’re remembered by their families to this day.
Want to snap a pic with Santa? He’ll be at District 1881 six days a week from 2 pm to 8 pm, with each session priced at $20-$40 (all proceeds going towards the Full Cupboard of the Fraser Valley and Starfish Pack).
On Friday, November 20th, visitors can also meet and take pictures with the Grinch.
Ready for even more holiday fun? Greendale Acres will have a ton of themed attractions, including a festive Greendale Express train tour of all the dazzling Christmas lights throughout the farm.
So there you have it, merrymakers! It’s definitely worth checking out this quaint Christmas village
