Rental prices got you down? Maybe it’s time to look at some of the cheapest cities to rent in across Canada right now. A new report shows that while some cities continue to soar, others are staying very affordable. If you’re hoping to save a few bucks, and don’t mind moving, this could be right up your alley.
According to Rentals.ca, here are some of the cheapest cities to rent in across Canada. For convenience sake, we’ve included picks from all the major provinces.
British Columbia – Surrey

Rental prices are relative, that’s for sure… While $1,552 for a 1-bedroom is definitely high compared to other cities on this list, it’s still around $700 less than in Vancouver proper, without actually leaving the Metro Vancouver region.
Ontario – Windsor

While it doesn’t provide easy access to Toronto, Windsor is literally just a bridge away from Detroit. It’s also roughly half of the average rent price in Toronto, with 1-bedrooms going for around $1,152.

Alberta – Edmonton

Alberta is home to some of the cheapest cities for rent in all of Canada, but Edmonton does have way more amenities. Coming in at $1,017 for a 1-bedroom, you’re saving on average $300/month moving here instead of Calgary, which is a greater difference than Edmonton and the cheapest city on the list (Lloydminster, Alberta sits at $744/month).
Quebec – Gatineau

Another city that’s literally across the river from a much larger one! This time around, living in Gatineau gets you immediate access to Ottawa, at a serious discount. Average rent there? $1,640 (ouch). Average rent in Gatineau? A mere $1,353.
Manitoba – Winnipeg

Manitoba might not be the most notable province around, but Winnipeg is still one of the largest cities in all of Canada. And like Edmonton, you can live for pennies, with an average rent of $1,142. Honestly, we’re surprised that it’s more expensive than Edmonton, but it is the only major city for hundreds of kilometres in every direction, so it kind of tracks…
