This charming harbour town is a gateway to this popular Ontario park

Where small-town charm meets outdoor adventure! Brighton, Ontario, sits along the scenic shores of Lake Ontario as the western gateway to the Bay of Quinte region. Just minutes from a popular provincial park, this picturesque harbour town is an ideal spot for a weekend escape. Here’s what to know.

It’ll take you about a two-hour drive east of Toronto, just past Colborne, to find Brighton, Ontario. According to the Bay of Quinte Region, this lovely town offers several natural and cultural sites that are just begging to be explored.

Brighton is surrounded by a land of wooded hills and rolling farmland. Its heritage main street, adorned with Victorian-style architecture, provides a glimpse into the town’s rich history.

Visitors can stroll through its quaint boutiques, explore local art galleries, and indulge in fine cuisine at the town’s lovely cafes and restaurants. The town’s laid-back atmosphere makes it a peaceful retreat for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.

As for outdoor adventures, you’ll need to head south to a provincial park that anchors the town. According to Bay of Quinte Region, the town serves as a gateway to the park.

Ontario Provincial Park

One of Brighton’s standout attractions is Presqu’ile Provincial Park, a haven for nature lovers.

It is known for its pristine lakeside camping and miles of sandy beaches. Presqu’ile offers a variety of outdoor activities, including swimming, and windsurfing during the summer season. But for an all season adventure, hike along its scenic trails and get your steps in.

According to Ontario Parks, it’s home to a 2.5 km sandy beach, 16 km of trails and paths, a migration hotspot in spring and fall, and a 1 km marsh boardwalk trail.

It is also home to a famous lighthouse. “Located at the south end of the peninsula, the Presqu’ile Point Lighthouse is the second-oldest operating lighthouse in Ontario. There are plenty of waterfront picnic spots for day-trippers along Lighthouse Lane,” shares The Bay of Quinte.
