Sorry, Maple, Canoe: You can now play a Canadian-themed version of Wordle

For anyone who plays Wordle daily, the five letter guessing game now has a Canada-themed version. While it is not created by Wordle, it is certainly inspired by the game that has taken over our lives.

Wordle is a web-based word game created by Josh Wardle back in October 2021. The game blew up in popularity, and was acquired by the New York Times this year.

The concept is simple, you have six guesses to try your shot at the word of the day. After each guess, the colour of the block will change to indicate how close you are to guessing the word. Colour coding includes showing you what letter is in the right place, what letter is in the word but not in the right place, as well as letters that are not included in your Wordle.

And Canadian Mark Rogers launched a Canuck version of the popular online game in February.

“Hello World, Err, Hello Canada! Sorry, eh?” stated Canuckle‘s first tweet on February 10. And with that, a new Canadian obsession began.

Unlike Wordle, Canuckle definitely includes words that aren’t in the dictionary as some are “Canadianisms” or Canadian slang. Eh.

“The answer will be a word/place/Canadianism related to Canada in some way, and a fun fact will be displayed after you play,” states the game, which also includes a “Hard version” in its settings.

According to Rogers, Canuckle has 142 words planned and the last Canuckle will be on Canada Day.

So get on it, Canada!
