This small Alberta mountain town is known for its epic filming locations

Nestled in the Rocky Mountains is Canmore, Alberta, a little slice of paradise with plenty to do and a ton to see.

Here, adventure-seekers can take in breathtaking views, breathe in the fresh air, and walk where some of their favourite fictional characters did — like Ellie and Joel from The Last of Us.

An iconic filming location

Starring Pedro Pascal (Gladiator II) and Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones), HBO’s hit TV show takes place 20 years after a global pandemic has destroyed civilization.

Filmed in Alberta between 2021 and 2022, Canmore did an incredible job standing in for Jackson, Wyoming, but eagle-eyed fans know better.

Just a couple of incredible destinations include the town’s Main Street and the Engine Bridge, both of which you can explore all year round.

Canmore’s hiking trails

Seen everything that was dubbed screen-worthy? Grab a bite to eat and recharge, because there are over 80 kilometres of regional trails to explore.

With warming huts and interpretive signs along the way, there are several places to take a walk in both the summer and wintertime, but the Policeman’s Creek Boardwalk is the most popular.

Surrounded by trees and wildlife, this 2-mile boardwalk is an absolute gem.

The Animals of Canmore

Hoping to see furry creatures big and small? Canmore is a hub for wildlife lovers

While in the area, keep an eye out for elk, deer, birds, and even bears — but keep your distance! This particular town is committed to preserving nature and all of its four-legged friends.

Want to check it out?

Bundle up and take photos! Canmore is a quieter alternative to the town of Banff, but it’s no less exciting.

It’s truly one of a kind, so enjoy it!

If it is good enough for HBO, it’s good enough for a staycation.

You’re in for a treat
