According to Montreal-based airline Air Transat, the Atlantic Ocean is no more. Instead, the airline is pushing for a brand-new, proudly rebranded Canadien Ocean through a recent petition.
The big official announcement was first made by a flight attendant aboard yesterday’s Flight TS2O7 from Manchester, UK to Toronto with Air Transat promising to roll out the change on all upcoming flights crossing the ocean. In addition, a Change.org petition is currently circulating to make the proposed name more permanent.
The motivation behind Air Transat’s change encourages Canadians to Fly Canadien with a nationwide rallying call, inaugural flight memorabilia, and exciting urban activations.
Passengers on board flight TS2O7 were treated to commemorative certificates after the official in-flight announcement, marking the historic moment.
“We’ve been flying the Montréal way for 37 years — bold, full of joie de vivre, and just a little cheeky,” said Xavier Szwengler, vice president of marketing and loyalty at Transat. “As a proudly Canadien airline, we want to celebrate this moment with Canadians at a time when we’re rediscovering and embracing our national identity.”
As part of the national movement, Air Transat will be hosting a takeover at Sankofa Square (formerly Yonge-Dundas Square) to announce its Canadien Ocean name change to the broader public on April 1.
