The roster for the Canadian Men’s Olympic Hockey Team is out

The road to the Olympics for men’s hockey has been a bumpy one, to say the least. First, we were ecstatic to hear that NHL players could join in, before getting those hopes dashed as the league dealt with yet another wave of COVID-19 and postponed games. Even still, we’re excited to share the news that the roster for the Canadian Men’s Olympic Hockey Team has been officially released.

The 25-man roster is comprised of three goaltenders, eight defensemen, and fourteen forwards. Not only does the roster represents some of Canada’s best talent coast-to-coast, but it also draws from leagues all over the world. Sure, it might not be McDavid and MacKinnon on the same line, but hey, we’re just happy to see some incredible players represent our country on the international stage.

Maybe the most interesting name on this list is Eric Staal, the former NHL player that was part of Canada’s gold-winning team back in 2010. At 37 years old, he might not be the quickest of the players out there, but we don’t doubt his leadership capabilities and love of the game helping out the team as they go for gold once more.

Another one to keep an eye on is Owen Power, the towering d-man who went first overall to Buffalo in last year’s NHL draft.

The preliminary round of men’s hockey kicks off on Wednesday, February 9th, and the newly formed Canadian Men’s Olympic Hockey Team has its first game against Germany on Thursday, February 10th.
