Canada projected to win 5th-highest number of medals at the Winter Olympics

We’re just over two months away from the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, and already projections are being made about which country is walking away with the most medals. A new report from Gracenote Sports has projected that Canada will walk away from the upcoming Olympics with 23 medals, landing us in 5th place globally.

Gracenote takes into account everything from home advantage to season bests from athletes. And while they’re the first to admit that predicting the Olympics is a tricky job, they did correctly predict the top 10 countries for the Summer Games, as well as predicting that Canada would have its best Summer Olympics since 1984.

Anyway, for the Winter Games, they predict Canada will take home 5 golds, 8 silvers, and 10 bronzes. We’re favourites in events like hockey (of course), freestyle skiing, and speed skating. But surprisingly, we might not see anything from curling competitions.

Personally, we’re a little more optimistic about our chances, since 23 medals would be our lowest count since 2002, and the current projections have us trailing the United States by only 1 medal. But, we have the utmost confidence our athletes, no matter the sport they’re competing in, will do us proud.
