Sun, fun, and celebration. Another long weekend is nearly here and so are several things to see and do around Alberta. Before you kick things off, however, there are a few things to take note of, Mainly what will be open and closed on Canada Day in Edmonton.
From city-owned facilities to tourist favourites, here’s what you can and cannot visit July 1st.
Hoping to learn a little something this weekend? This long weekend you will be able to visit several Edmonton museums from the Royal Alberta Museum to The Neon Sign Museum. Enjoy!
Hoping to catch a flick on Canada Day? Landmark Cinemas and Cineplex theatres will all be open all weekend long!
Looking to do something fun with the kiddos? The Edmonton Valley Zoo will also be open on Canada Day and will make for a great family outing, especially for those with kids!
Though we’d recommend checking their hours before heading out, West Edmonton Mall, Kingsway, Southgate Centre and Edmonton City Centre malls will all be open this Monday!

Need milk, beer or a last-minute ham? You’re in luck. Though (again) we’d recommend checking your local stop hours, most liquor and grocery stores will be open on holiday Monday.
Whether you were hoping to check out Victoria, Riverside, or the Rundle, all Edmonton-owned golf courses will also be open this Canada Day.

While transit will be operational on July 1st, Trains and buses will run on their Sunday schedule. Please plan ahead, Edmonton!
A little road trip? Why not? Our first option for those looking to get outta town is the U of A Botanic Garden, which offers hundreds of acres of incredible gardens and makes a great destination for those who crave a relaxed day outside.

Hoping to grab a book this upcoming long weekend? Unfortunately, for all of you reading worms, it’ll have to wait. The Edmonton Public Library will be closed on Canada Day.
Good news errand do-ers! As per their website, no payment is required for on-street parking in Edmonton on Monday, July 1st, 2024, due to the stat holiday.
While grocery and convenience stores will be open this Monday, Costco will be unshoppable this Canada Day– Looks like you’ll have to get your massive hot dog fix before July 1st.
