Are you an avid traveler and know a quality airport when you see one? The annual ranking of the world’s top 100 airports is out for 2023 and it highlights airports voted by air travelers just like you. Out of the 100 listed, five airports in Canada made the cut.

Skytrax’s World Airport Awards are considered “prestigious accolades” for the airport industry. Travelers partake in an annual survey, which is seen as the largest global airport customer satisfaction survey, that assesses customer service and facilities across more than 550 airports.

According to the organizers, “the survey and awards are independent of any airport control, influence or input,” which means, again, only travelers can participate.

Well, the results are in and a few Canadian airports managed to score some points among travelers. If we’re looking at only Canadian airports, Vancouver International Airport came in first, MontrĂ©al-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport in second, Toronto Pearson Aiport in third, and Calgary Internation Airport in fourth.

But, overall, compared to the rest of the world, Vancouver actually came in 20th place. Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport came in 45th, Toronto Pearson in 64th and Calgary International in 92nd.

Yikes.

Though not all is lost for Canadian airports. Montréal–Trudeau International Airport actually received the award for Best Airport Staff in North America. “

With a strong recovery in aviation activity in 2022 creating many challenges for our industry, I am very proud that the excellent work of employees in our airport community has been recognized. YUL has distinguished itself for many years by the way it welcomes people and for its commitment to championing the passenger experience,” said Philippe Rainville, President, and CEO of ADM.

“So winning this award twice in the last five years is no accident. To the more than 13,000 people who are dedicated to serving passengers every day and who, above all, have continued to smile during the most difficult times over the past year, I say thank you and, above all, bravo!”
