Ask almost any Albertan and they’ll tell you that the Greatest Outdoor Show On Earth is deserving of its nickname – but it’s nice to get recognition beyond our own. In a new ranking by Carnival Warehouse, the Calgary Stampede was listed as one of the top fairs in North America for 2022, but where did we place and why?

According to the publication, each fair is “assessed based on attendance and calculated with a special patented formula to determine their official ranking,” and overall 2022 was pretty impressive across the board.

“If 2021 was a recovery year, 2022 was a restoration,” they wrote.

“Hundreds of thousands, if not millions, more people attended the largest fairs in North America in 2022 than they did in 2021.”

Now, while Calgary was among those who had an amazing summer, we didn’t see ourselves in first place – rather, the number one stop went to the State Fair of Texas, which saw 2,547,289 people over its 23 days.

In second, we saw the Houston Livestock Show and Exhibition, followed by the Minnesota State Fair, the Eastern States Exhibition in Springfield, Massachusetts and the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) in Toronto, Ontario, which rounded out the top 5.

The Stampede, however, did manage to crack the top 10!

With a crowd of 1,216,859, cowtown’s big summer party placed 8th overall – which is a feat we’re actually pretty proud of.

Here’s to hoping we climb the ranks next year! Until then – dust off your boots, it won’t be long until July comes back around.
