With the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth just around the corner, it was only a matter of time until we got big news about the event that would kick the whole thing off!

From floats to performances, the Calgary Stampede Parade is one of the biggest parties of the year and after much anticipation, we now know who will lead the way.

Actor and stuntman, Owen Crow Shoe, has been named the 2024 marshal, joining a long list of celebrities, local legends, athletes, musicians and royalty to hold the title since 1904.

Crow Shoe, who is from the Piikani Nation and Blood Tribe of the Blackfoot Confederacy, has appeared in a ton of incredible TV shows including Black Summer and Joe Pickett, as well as The Revenant, which won several Oscars in 2016.

He also stars in Horizon: An American Saga, alongside 2022 Stampede Parade Marshal Kevin Costner which comes out on June 28th, and is no stranger to the upcoming event.

“I grew up at the Calgary Stampede,” said Crow Shoe.

“I am proud to say my family has been part of this event since 1985 and I am honoured to continue that tradition leading the Parade and opening The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth. I’m fortunate to have made so many memories and life-long friendships at the Calgary Stampede and I look forward to making so many more along the Parade route this year.”

The Parade will hit the streets July 5th, 2024 at 9 am and will be broadcast live on Global Television, the Global TV app, Globalnews.ca, the Global News YouTube channel, Facebook and Amazon Prime.

Can’t wake up that early but still want to support Crow Shoe? In addition to leading the Parade, the actor will also be part of the 2024 Calgary Stampede Powwow as a Master of Ceremonies on July 7th and 8th from 1 to 6 pm.

It’s going to be a good year, Calgary!
