With less than a month and a half until the greatest outdoor show on Earth rolls into town, the organization behind the year’s biggest event has begun dropping hints, nods, and bombs. In fact, this morning they landed a big one, announcing that Kevin Costner, star of Yellowstone and Alberta-shot Let Him Go is confirmed to lead the legendary parade as our 2022 marshal.

Set to hit the streets next month – the Calgary Stampede Parade is one of the biggest events of the entire year – second only to the 10-day hoedown itself.

This year, however – will be the biggest in recent memory, with the legendary actor donning the iconic white stetson in celebration of the first proper Stampede since 2019.

“I just wanted to tell you how nice it was to be selected as Parade Marshal,” he said in a press release.

“You don’t see this kind of thing coming. I have a lot of fond memories of being in Calgary. It has made a big difference to me in my life to make Open Range and Let Him Go there. It’s one of the most beautiful spots.”

In addition to Costner, this year will also recognize the parade marshals of 2020 and 2021, Katari Right Hand and Filipe Masetti Leite – who were unable to take part in a traditional parade due to the COVID pandemic.

Both representatives will be present and riding alongside the actor during this year’s event and will help kick things off at 9 am on Friday, July 8th – with free admission to the park to follow between 11 am and 1:30 pm.

If of course, you’re unable to attend in person, the Parade will be broadcast on Global Calgary live.

Until then, dust off your boots, folks! It’s going to be a good one!
