The big day is nearly here and there is only one way to celebrate. After all, The Calgary Stampede is the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth!

Friday, July 5th, 2024 will mark the beginning of the city’s most iconic experience and to commemorate, the downtown area will see one of the best parades of the year.

Ready to roll?

Just before 9 am, 21 floats, 11 bands, and 700 horses, all led by 2024 Calgary Stampede Parade Marshal, actor Owen Crow Shoe (Horizon: An American Saga), will start their journey on 9th Avenue at 3rd Street SE, then wrap things up on 6th Avenue and 4th Street SE.

This year’s show will run for approximately 2 hours and will be judged by Amber Marshall, Chris Potter and Shaun Johnston from Heartland, which is famously filmed in Alberta.

Plan to get there extra early to reserve a spot? Expect live performances on the route for a parade prelude – which starts at 7:45 am, either way, don’t miss the main event!

“The Stampede Parade Committee has assembled a stellar lineup that has something for everyone,” said Blair Barkley, Chair of the Stampede Parade Committee.

“The tradition and pageantry of the Parade Calgarians have loved for generations will meet some exciting new and refreshed entries to produce an unforgettable experience for the young and young at heart.”

Please note that most roads in and out of the downtown core will close at 7:30 am and will not re-open until the Parade concludes and Calgary Police determine it is safe to do so.

Roads in and around the East Village will also be closed to on-street parking between 12 pm on Thursday, July 4th and 6:30 am on Friday, July 5th, so using public transit, walking, or carpooling will be the optimal way to get to the Parade route.

It’s going to be a good year, Calgary, so have fun, be safe, and don’t forget to bring sunscreen.

You’ve got a long 10 days ahead of you.
