Calgary expected to see the first snowfall of its 2022 winter season this weekend

Stretch your arms and reach to the back of those closets because after little anticipation and a whole lot of hoping for an extended fall – it’s likely that Calgary will see its first snow this weekend.

Despite seeing sunshine and temperatures well above 15°C just a few days ago, much of the Alberta foothills will get a taste of the winter season.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, Calgary is expected to get anywhere between 2 and 4 centimetres – but it definitely could be worse!

The department has issued warnings for Kananaskis, Okotoks, Waterton and Fort Mcleod, among others and Alberta Parks is asking those headed to the mountains to exercise caution.

“Prepare for winter conditions. We are planning for what could be the first major snow event of the season. Travel on Saturday is expected to be hazardous and plans should be adjusted to prioritize.

Snow is said to start falling Friday night and then will continue on until Sunday, so plan accordingly.

Luckily, here in Calgary, we will find some relief on Monday when ECCC is calling for 10°C and sunny so hang on, friends.

Winter is here – even if Halloween isn’t.
