Burnaby’s Blues & Roots Festival just dropped its lineup & it’s FREE to attend

Fans of blues likely need no reminding, but the Burnaby Blues + Roots Festival always brings the best local talent to the stage every summer. Great music, a couple of brews, and a sunny day on the lake? That’s a no-brainer. And the 2023 festival will take place on Saturday, August 12th – so mark your calendars, because this year, you get to enjoy a full day of free music!

That’s right, the festival announced that it will offer free admission this summer. And the organizers just dropped the festival’s lineup.

“Deer Lake Park is one of the most beautiful outdoor music venues in all of Metro Vancouver and we’re so excited to have such a fantastic lineup of musicians for this year’s Burnaby Blues + Roots Festival,” said Mayor Mike Hurley. “We’re proud to offer this wonderful event for free this year so everyone in our community will have the chance to experience this unforgettable event.”

2023 lineup

As for the headliner, Canadian Music Hall of Famer and multi-JUNO award-winning artist Buffy Sainte-Marie will take the stage.

Known for her anti-war anthems and love songs, Buffy has long been a Canadian icon – and there’s no one better suited to kick off a day of great tunes, if you ask us.

This year’s lineup will also feature performances by Allison Russell, The Dip, Boy Golden, The Trade Offs, and a soon-to-be-announced artist from the First Up with RBCXMusic program, according to the City of Burnaby.

Gates will open at 1 pm with the opening act taking the stage at 2 pm.

Along with incredible live music, visitors will get to enjoy a family zone from 2 to 8 pm.

Note that there will be portable washrooms onsite as well as food trucks and beverage vendors, including beer & wine service.

The Burnaby Blues + Roots Festival will return to the Festival Lawn at Deer Lake Park on Saturday, August 12th.

Until then, there are plenty of big concerts coming up this June to get excited for.

Mark your calendars and get your dancing shoes ready!
