We love the city, but nothing beats a big day in a small town. Located less than an hour west of Calgary, Bragg Creek is a charming hamlet with Mountain views and plenty of shops and restaurants.

Described as “Kananaskis’ best-kept secret,” this fantastical spot was named after Albert Warren Bragg, who moved with his younger brother from Collingwood, Nova Scotia.

With dreams of running a ranch, they set up a cabin next to the creek where they would live until a fire left the land barren. The brook would later be named in their honour.

After this incident, many other settlers left the area – but those who remained set up a Trading Post, working with the Nakoda First Nation to exchange furs and beaded clothing.

Fast forward, and the town is bustling with hikers, bikers, skiers and food-lovers.

Though it has modern shops and restaurants, log buildings, wildlife, greenery and occasional horse sightings bring visitors back to a simpler time – so check it out!

There’s no place quite like it!
