It’s starting to feel a lot like summer in Toronto, and lately, it’s been giving beach. Lucky for us, here in the city we have beaches to choose from. According to a recent list, eight Toronto beaches have scored major props for being nice and clean.

Blue Flag Canada has awarded 20 beaches across Canada with its official certification – eight of which are in Toronto. Nine marinas have also earned the prestigious award across the country.

This isn’t just any award, however. The Blue Flag Canada certification is an international award that is given to beaches and marinas that meet a certain standard when it comes to safety, cleanliness, and environmental friendliness.

It means you’ll find clean washrooms, trash disposal reciprocals, carefully monitored wildlife habitats, and more.

According to Swim Drink Fish, who is the National Operator of the Blue Flag program in Canada since 2020, a “record number of Canadians visited Blue Flag destinations” last year.

And as we’ve mentioned a few times already, the city has eight beaches and even one marina that was given the ward. Here they are:

  1. Gibraltar Beach
  2. Centre Island Beach
  3. Bluffer’s Beach
  4. Kew-Balmy Beach
  5. Woodbine Beach
  6. Cherry Beach
  7. Hanlan’s Point
  8. Ward’s Island Beach

And as you probably may have noticed, nothing has changed since last year’s awards. Keep up the great work.

We’ll show our support by spending time at one of these many beaches in Toronto this summer.
