This scenic BC trail through old-growth forest leads to a clear lake

If you’ve been waiting all summer to visit Birkenhead Lake Park in British Columbia, now’s your time, because the stunning park officially reopens to the public this week. Previously closed due to wildfires in the area, Birkenhead is a must-visit for lakeside camping and hiking.

Established in 1963, the provincial park was created to protect the Sockeye Creek watershed and surrounding old-growth forest and subalpine lakes.

Travellers looking for a scenic stopping point between Whistler and Lillooet have sought refuge and escape in the remote wilderness park, which boasts well-maintained campsites (including walk-in sites), and clear waters perfect for fishing and boating.

The 8-kilometre Birkenhead Lake Trail leads through beautiful old-growth forest, featuring a boardwalk section through towering Douglas firs, western hemlocks, western red cedars, cottonwoods, and Engelmann spruces.

The lake itself has clear waters and a sandy beach to lounge on.

Come wintertime, the park transforms into a haven for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

So there you have it, explorers. Consider Birkenhead Lake for your next lake day or fall hike!
