Calgary took more Bird-brand e-scooter rides than any Canadian city this year

When springtime rolls around, so do thousands of people on inner-city two-wheelers. From work and home to parks or the bar, e-scooters rule the streets of Calgary and are beloved by a significant number of people – and that’s a fact!

This week, Bird actually announced that not only did Calgarians take the most trips of their 10 locations this year, but someone also took the longest ride in the entire country.

“We love that Calgarians are seeing the direct lifestyle benefit of having micromobility options available, along with the positive impact on their community, and we look forward to another successful year ahead”, said Bird Canada’s Chief Operating Officer, Alex Petre in a press release.

“Since launching in 2019, we’ve worked extremely hard to win the trust and respect of the cities we serve, and we’re excited by the fact that 98% of respondents felt that Bird Canada vehicles have had a positive impact upon the City of Calgary.”

With an average trip length of 2.12 kilometres, Canada’s leading micromobility provider shared that those in the Alberta city rolled a total of 1.6 million kilometres in 2022 which is equivalent to taking 40 trips around the globe.

Other shocking tidbits that the company found?

One customer actually took an incredible 770 trips between February and November 2022, while another took their scooter a total of 68 kilometres in a single ride – but it gets better.

According to Bird, Albertas were able to avoid 483,323 car journeys and prevented 571 metric tons of CO2 emissions from entering the atmosphere – just by taking advantage of the program.

Pretty cool, right? Heck, maybe we can double that in 2023!

Here’s to wishful thinking, more e-scooters here in Calgary and the springtime. It won’t be long until they return, friends. We’ll be waiting!
