Ski season is just a few weeks away and there are plenty of reasons to get excited. Seattle just ranked as one of the best North American cities for an urban ski trip and it’s easy to see why. Let’s check out the ranking and see exactly where we sit.

Travel Pulse gathered data on cities that offer the ability to enjoy urban amenities and awesome ski destinations. All cities have travel-worthy attractions and also happen to be less than a few hour’s drive away from great mountains and hills.

The top 10 North American cities for an urban ski trip are as follows:

  1. Calgary, Alberta, Canada
  2. Denver, Colorado
  3. Reno, Nevada
  4. Santa Fe, New Mexico
  5. Salt Lake City, Utah
  6. Asheville, North Carolina
  7. Minneapolis, Minnesota
  8. Portland, Oregon
  9. Milwaukee, Wisconsin
  10. Seattle, Washington

While we’d love to see Seattle take first place, it’s great to see our rainy city line up among many other world-class ski destinations. Seattle’s ranking was influenced by local urban attractions like the Space Needle, and Pike Place Market, and cultural associations like our coffee and music scenes.

When it comes to skiing, the ranking mentioned The Summit at Snoqualmie as the best local spot to visit. After all, it’s only 48 minutes from Seattle and is home to the largest night skiing area in the nation as well as a mountaintop restaurant. Does it get much better than that?

Enjoy the ski season, Seattle!
