Looking for a new place to start fresh in Canada? Our beautiful country is filled with wonderful cities and towns but choosing where to start a family can be complicated. If you’re in search of ideas, a new list has revealed the best places to live in Canada for quality of life.

Moving site, MovingWaldo compiled its results by looking at the Crime Severity Index, sourced from Statistics Canada 2022 records, which its safety ranking method relies on.

According to the site, its index includes all Criminal Code violations, traffic offenses, drug violations, and other federal statute breaches.

“It assesses the gravity of crimes reported to law enforcement, considering both their frequency and severity. Using a baseline of 100 set in 2006, it indicates whether crime severity has increased or decreased since then,” according to the site.

Affordability is also taken into account and statistics from Realtor.ca are used for the average cost of buying a property and Zumper for the average cost of rent for a 1-bed apartment.

As for the ‘Best quality of life’ aspect, it is measured based on “feedback from real people who have moved to this area in our database or real people from trusted online forums.”

Job opportunities, quality of education, quality of healthcare, feeling of safety, public transportation, environment (cleanliness), as well as the availability of recreational facilities and parks are all taken into account.

That being said, here are the top cities to live in Canada for the best quality of life:

  1. Wellington County, ON (Convenient for outdoors)
  2. Oak Bay, BC (Many beaches and parks)
  3. LaSalle, ON (Ideal for raising a family)
  4. Levis, QC (Located right across Quebec City)
  5. Burlington, ON (Small charming town with big-city amenities)
