Make no mistake – Canada’s restaurant industry has been at the top of its game, serving us some of the best new eats around. And clearly, Air Canada has taken notice after unveiling its annual Canada’s Best New Restaurants Top 10 for 2023.

An anonymous reviewer wined and dined at over 30 different restaurants across the country.

According to Air Canada, they take a look at the top restaurants that have opened across the country between late spring 2022 and May 31, 2023. These establishments must “deliver exceptional experiences through the quality of their food, level of service and commitment to culinary creativity.”

And as always, only the top 10 restaurants make the cut.

According to the list, beloved Toronto restaurant Kappo Sato took the coveted top spot.

“We are incredibly proud of Canada’s Best New Restaurants program, which for over 20 years has provided a platform to spotlight emerging culinary excellence across the country,” said Andy Shibata, Vice President, Brand at Air Canada.

Kappo Soto is a Kappo-style Omakase restaurant led by chef Takeshi Sato, where the tasting menu is prepared in front of guests. Most recently, the restaurant was awarded a Michelin Star for its high-quality cooking.

In second place, we look at Whistler, B.C’s Wild Blue, and in third, Marilena Café and Raw Bar in Victoria, B.C.

“Dining and travelling are important economic contributors within our communities, and part of our objectives every year is to help new businesses flourish and for our travellers to see the possibilities of where culinary experiences can take them,” add Shibata.

Here’s the top 10 list:

  1. Kappo Sato (Toronto, ON)
  2. Wild Blue (Whistler, BC)
  3. Marilena Café and Raw Bar (Victoria, BC)
  4. Rizzo’s House of Parm (Fort Erie, ON)
