3 Canadian cities were just ranked the best in the world for students

Canada is a popular destination for studying abroad, but some cities are more student-friendly than others. A new ranking by QS Quacquarelli Symonds, global higher education analysts, has named the 20 best cities in the world for students and only three in Canada made the cut.

For the ranking, QS compared cities around the world with populations of 250,000 more and with at least two schools in their World University Ranking.

QS also had several other categories, including student mix, which is the student make-up of the city, both overall and from an international perspective.

 Other factors were desirability, affordability (student accommodations, cost of living, tuition fees, the price of Apple products), employer activity, and student satisfaction which is based on over 95,000 survey responses.

The world’s best student city is London, U.K, which has retained its number one spot for the past four editions of this ranking.

Canada stood out in the 2022 ranking for having three of the world’s best student-friendly cities, more than any other country.

The best student city in Canada is Montreal, landing in 14th place.

 Montreal was closely followed by Toronto in 15th place, beating Vienna, Osaka, New York, and Lausanne.

Vancouver squeezed into the top 20 in last place.

However, the full version of the ranking has over 100 cities listed, which includes Ottawa in 55th place and Quebec in 106th.

Looks like the prairies, Atlantic Canada, and northern Canada still have some work to do when it comes to attracting students.
