These Canadian cities are ranked among the best in the world for Gen Z

The post-Y2K generation is entering early adulthood and a new report by German retailer Peek & Cloppenburg has ranked the best cities in the world for Gen Z as they embark on their adult lives.

The report used research supplied by Urbanity Impact to create a shortlist of 100 prominent, international cities based on four categories — digitalization, principles, lifestyle, and economy.

Digitalization refers to government digitalization, digital services, connectivity, and technology education opportunities.

Principles is related to each city’s commitment to all of the issues that are important to Gen Z, such as climate action, gender quality, access to mental health care, safety, and prestigious universities.

The report also assessed the lifestyle amenities in each city, including nightlife, concerts, and “Gen Z influencer activity.”

Finally, it examined the economic standing of each city, including affordability, remote work opportunities, and social entrepreneurship.

Four Canadian cities were included in the ranking and the highest-scoring among them is Montreal in 7th place out of 100, and an overall score of 95.4.

Montreal received the highest scores for Safety, Affordability, Access to Healthcare, and Gender Equality.

The second highest-scoring Canadian city is Ottawa in 30th place, with a score of 93.1.

The final two are Toronto in 41st place and Vancouver in 60th place, with scores of 91.6 and 88.5, respectively.

3. Stockholm, Sweden
4. Brisbane, Australia
5. Edinburgh, UK
6. Tokyo, Japan
7. Montreal, Canada
8. Cologne, Germany
9. Frankfurt, Germany
10. Austin, USA

“Despite growing up during a global financial crisis, pandemic and the climate crisis, Gen-Zers are generally optimistic for the future, open-minded, with an innate understanding of technology,” says the report.

These cities are the best equipped to meet the needs of Gen Z and help them thrive.
