Explore 150 feet below ground on this haunting mine tour in Alberta

Looking ahead to the spring? When the snowy season has come and gone, many of you will be ready to explore our big, beautiful province once again, and we’d recommend taking the party underground.

Located in Crowsnest Pass, the Bellevue Mine is a historically designated destination that will give you the chance to walk in the footsteps of those who used to work 150+ feet below the surface.

Set to reopen to the public in May, this incredible site offers an hour-long tour tour where you’ll experience the dark like never before.

Dress warm, toss on a miner’s helmet and lamp then travel south with one of their Heritage Interpreters.

“Rich coal deposits were found at the site of Bellevue in 1903, the same year West Canadian Collieries was incorporated. The mine loaded its first CPR box car on December 2nd of that year. Over 13,000,000 tons of coal were produced from 1903-1961, ” they explain.

“The Bellevue Underground Mine Tour maintains and operates 300 meters of restored tunnel at the entrance to the Bellevue Mine.”

After you’re done down below, visit the main building and browse through the artifacts on display, then take a look at some of the historic underground mine machinery they have on site.

There’s plenty to see and do during your time at Bellevue.
