This 2.8 km trail offers the "most famous view" of a magical Alberta park
Wild Rose Country has no shortage of jaw-dropping spots, but the Bear’s Hump trail in Waterton Lakes National Park, Alberta is a true gem.
A standout in a province known for its breathtaking landscape, Waterton is truly something else from above and this particular trail offers its “most famous view.”
With mountains, a gorgeous blue lake, and the townsite below, this spot is unparalleled and is described as moderately difficult to get to.
What to know
Named by the Blackfoot Indigenous peoples for its resemblance to a grizzly bear, this family-friendly adventure will take about an hour to complete.
You’ll want to start your journey at the Waterton Visitor Resource Centre, which is located across the street from the Prince of Wales Hotel.
From there, the trail will begin, winding through a forest of towering trees to the flat top of the “hump.”
“From here you will see one of the most iconic and recognized views of the Waterton Valley,” My Waterton explains.
“This vantage point shows off the mountain peaks down the valley and views of the prairies to the north. Sit and enjoy the landscape that makes Waterton so unique.”
