It’s been a long time coming, but professional basketball finally has a place within the Calgary sports community!

As confirmed by The Canadian Elite Basketball League, the Guelph Nighthawks will be permanently relocated to Alberta’s sunniest city ahead of the 2023 season – so get ready and stay ready!

“Calgary has been one of our target markets for a long time,” said Mike Morreale, Commissioner and Co-Founder of the CEBL in a recent statement.

“Relocating a franchise from our smallest market to Canada’s third-largest city will allow the team to remain financially competitive as our league continues to experience tremendous growth.”

“Several potential ownership groups have expressed an interest in bringing a team to Calgary, but none has been able to meet our criteria for ownership.”

The Nighthawks, who are coming off a 2022 season in which they posted a 10-10 record and finished seventh in the 10-team CEBL, will play out of the WinSport Event Centre – but more news is yet to come.

In addition to details about how you can get tickets, more information about the team’s new name, logo and colours will be announced in the near future – giving us something to look forward to off the court.

Until then – why not toss our team an Instagram follow? It won’t be long until they’re here and dominating the CEBL!
