An Edmonton company will turn your yard into a outdoor movie theatre this summer

If it were up to us, Edmonton would have a drive-in movie theatre in every neighbourhood. Luckily, there is an alternative for those who want to enjoy their favourite films under the stars this summer.

From date nights to birthdays, there’s nothing better than spending time with loved ones in the open air, unless you’re also a cinephile.

YEG BackYard Cinema

Without hesitation, we can say that dinner, an outdoor movie, and a bag of Sour Patch Kids make for the ideal Friday night, and we know we’re not alone.

The setback? Unless we’re watching on our phones or a laptop, catching a flick on the grass requires some serious equipment.

Comfy chair, a projector, and a big screen are not something we have just lying around, but they are something that YEG BackYard Cinema has on hand.

Founded in 2022, this family-run business was born out of a need for connection, and quickly grew into something much larger

“Yeg Backyard Cinema is a company started by two brothers in 2022. It all started in 2021/2022 when everyone was stuck at home,” it says on their website

”As time went by and the restrictions started to loosen, they invited family and friends for weekly movie nights… With the ongoing success and seeing how happy everyone was, the brothers decided to share this idea with the public by opening up YEG BACKYARD CINEMA.”

What to expect

Interested in having your own drive-in movie experience in Edmonton?

Packages are a bit pricey, but are meant to be split up among friends.

For $400, the company will provide two to six comfortable seats, surround lights, a mosquito repellent machine, a surround sound system, and a microphone, in addition to a projector and a 16 ft. inflatable screen.

Each package will give you a five-hour timeslot between 7 p.m. and 12 a.m. and can be upgraded with additional items like a bottle of wine, candles, or blankets for a fee.

It’s going to be a hot summer, but it’ll come and go before you know it.

The best way to make the most of it? By spending as much time as you can outdoors.

Enjoy and happy viewing!
