This Ontario town is home to the tallest tree in the province

Did you know that Ontario’s tallest tree can be found just a short drive away from Ottawa? It’s actually located in the small town of Arnprior and it’s a wonderful sight to discover.

Located within the County of Renfrew, Arnprior prides itself in having “all of the conveniences of an urban town, while maintaining the beauty of nature that comes with being ‘Where the Rivers Meet.,'” according to the county site.

This charming town is about a 40-minute drive away from Ottawa. If you want to either visit Canada’s capital or spend it within Arnprior’s local stores, restaurants, and historical buildings, you can do all of that on a day trip.

There’s lots to discover in this area in any season but the main attraction, besides its fantastic trails, parks and beaches, it’s Ontario’s tallest tree.

You read that right.

Arnprior is home to the tallest tree in Ontario – an Eastern White Pine. It towers 47 metres tall – larger than that of a 13-story building, according to the Town of Arnprior.

You can find this gem within Gillies Grove, one of the last old-growth forested in Ontario.

To access the tree, you must embark on a trail.

“The trail system consists of three main trails throughout the property; White Pine Loop, which passes through a section of old growth pine forest; Cross Grove Trail, the most direct route through Gillies Grove; and Hemlock Loop, which leads visitors to explore further into the grove,” according to the town.

“It isn’t marked but there is a bench located midway through the trail and if you sit on the bench you will be looking right at the tallest tree.”

Though you may feel inclined to visit in the summer, it does serve as a magical winter adventure in the colder months.

This is a sight worth seeing.
